The Signed Edition contains Earl Shaffer and Bart Smith's signature on the 1½ inch by 3 inch card. This card is inserted under the top mat in the lower right hand corner of the Katahdin Art Project. Earl was able to sign 1200 cards before he became too weak to write.

Original image shot with Fuji Velvia slide film in October, 1998 by Bart Smith.

A digital file was created from the slide by using a drum scanner. This creates the sharpest image available which translates in to better print quality.

A ZBE Chroma printer using Fuji Crystal Archive Glossy Paper reproduced the image of Mt Katahdin.

The tested life span of photographs on this type of paper is in excess of sixty years if displayed properly according to Wilhelm Research, Inc.
Written by Earl Shaffer At 4:00 AM on morning of his final accent of Mt. Katahdin in October 1998.

Engraved metal plates were created that includes images of a lady slipper orchid and the boots that Earl wore on his historic thru hike of 1948, as well as the poem. His signature, "Earl Victor Shaffer", was also faithfully reproduced on the plate.

It was printed on Earthstone, a Classic Crest Paper by the Neehah Paper Co.

The paper has a smooth finish, contains cotton fibers, and is composed of 60% recycled materials.

Also the paper is acid free, meeting Type 1 permanence guidelines, which means the paper is expected to last several hundred years.

The impression created from this printing style on this quality of paper turns the poem into a piece of fine art in and of itself.
The Neilsen frame is made from premium-quality aluminum materials with a matte black finish.

The 9/32 inch flat top lip of the frame subtlety surrounds the completed piece.

The photograph and poem are protected by a sheet of transparent acrylic that filters out harmful UV light. (A non-glare matte finish would dampen the brilliant glossy finish of the photograph.)

Two sheets of Bainbridge museum quality conservation cotton mat board were used to actively protect the art work. Bainbridge's Artcare Archival System brings a perfect balance of superior preservation protection and creative design to the Katahdin Art Project.

A Gunner computerized mat cutter was used to form the mat's perfect bevel corner cuts.

Archival foam board, which serves as a protective barrier on the back of the framed piece, was used to mount the art work.

A saw toothed hanger was inserted into a channel on the back of the metal frame, allowing it to slide thus ensuring level positioning.
Warranty: The Katahdin Art project is being sold with a 1 year total satisfaction guarantee starting on the date of delivery. Crest Photography, Inc. will accept returns, no questions asked, if the original signature card is intact. The price refunded will be actual cost of the product and excludes all lay away costs and shipping and handling charges. The buyer is responsible for costs incurred shipping the Katahdin Art Project back to us.

If the piece arrives damaged let us know immediately. We will assist in resolving damage caused by UPS. In any circumstances, involving substandard workmanship, Crest Photography will cover all shipping costs both ways.
Every effort will be made to ensure the Katahdin Art Project is shipped to the purchaser immediately upon confirmation of your order. If demand exceeds production Crest Photography will notify buyer of any prior to shipping delay of greater than 10 days. If the delay is 30 days or longer the buyer will then be notified and have an opportunity to cancel order with immediate processing of full refund.

It will be delivered by USP Ground Service which may take up to a week to cross the country. Our total delivery time could hit 2 weeks.
